Who wants to be a homegrown terrorist?

Zachary Adam Chesser, the 21-year old American who last October pleaded guilty to materially supporting terrorism, was sentenced to 25 years in prison for threatening the creators of South Park. U.S. Attorney Neil MacBride:

His actions caused people throughout the country to fear speaking out — even in jest — to avoid being labeled as enemies who deserved to be killed. The fact that a young man from Northern Virginia could support such violence and terror is a sobering reminder of the serious threat that homegrown jihadists pose to this country.

I love South Park, and I hope that Matt and Trey continue their work for a long time. Everything must indeed be allowed to be funny; it’s the only way to deal with the fact that our world is one hot mess.

Regarding the comment on “homegrown” terrorists, I want to point out that the Chesser case is just another poignant reminder that most all of our domestic terrorists have been white, not Arab or Mexican: McVeigh, Kaczynski, Posse Comitatus … Nativists and Birthers and Sovereign Citizens need to shut the fuck up.

UPDATE: I forgot that Matt talked a little bit about this awhile back. Also, another link to Leonard Zeskind’s Blood and Politics.

  1. Arab or White doesn’t matter; he was Muslim and obviously and extremely so.

You’re also wrong. Even limiting to just true terrorism instead of the hyperbolic or deliberately false twisting of the term, Arabs and Pakistanis have all others beat by the numbers and they’ve all done it for the same reason, whereas White terrorists seem to have differing agendas.

    • Differing agendas? You mean like trying to impose a particular political ideology on a government? Doesn’t matter if it’s an Islamic agenda or based on ass-backward notions of a “Sovereign Citizenry,” it’s still terrorism (and just in case you are wondering, there is no “true” definition of the word, ask anyone who actually knows about the subject and they will agree).

As for terrorist attacks within the United States caused by citizens of the U.S., you are the one who is simply incorrect. The vast majority of terrorist attacks occurring within the United States by “homegrown” terrorists were instigated by whites. And they weren’t even Muslims. You should probably check your facts. Here is a handy list of known terrorist organizations which operate in the United States: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domestic_terrorism_in_the_United_States

      • By differing agendas I meant that the non-Muslim terrorists’ goals and agenda were different from each other’s, whereas all the Muslims do it in the name of the Pedophile Prophet and corrupted vision of a God.

As for your list of terrorist organizations – most wouldn’t meet a strict standard for terrorism and a few weren’t even terrorists at all.

That’s what you get for thinking of Wikipedia as information.

      • Glad to see you looked at the rest of the links we posted.

If you’d read even a handful of the entries on insurrectionism, you would have noticed that “tyrannical government” and “Second Amendment rights” factored quite heavily into the rationale for committing violence or exhorting others to commit violence. Historically there have been different reasons why these people decided the government was tyrannical and needed to be overthrown (obviously they couldn’t use Obamacare as an excuse in the 80s and 90s), but the end result was the same.

Jonolan, you might want to take a minute and consider how many people in the United States the past year or so were killed by white, right-wing terrorists and how many were killed by Muslim terrorists.

I am so happy that our President has completely ignored these birthers people who don’t have any facts in hand but just lies that FoxsNews AKA FakeNews spread with the blessing of the GOP (Gay Old Party). I enjoy seeing the birthers fail in our US Courts, dullards, win a case or as they say “put up or shut-up”. When I applied for a US Passport, I sent in my US birth certificate, as all US citizens have to send in. Long before our current President, became President, he applied and traveled under a US Passport by sending in his US birth certificate. But the birthers would like you to believe that there is a vast conspiracy, its the passport office, its the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of the United States. Guess what its not them, if truth be told, it’s the crazy birthers. The birthers have no proof, just lies.

    • It’s pretty nuts. When I interned in Gov. Pat Quinn’s office here in Illinois, we got a several letters and phone calls from people renouncing their American citizenship because they were “sovereign citizens” and not “14th Amendment citizens.” I took great pleasure in sending them response letters which detailed the steps one actually has to take in order to renounce one’s citizenship, especially the part about leaving the country.

  2. Woah! I couldn’t have said that better if I tried LOL. I totally dig your writing skills and your blog! Please do keep up the excellent work!
